Mere Husband Ki Biwi Review: 1/5 Stars — Flop Film or Total Time Waste? Honest Verdict!

“Mere Husband Ki Biwi Review” is a romantic comedy directed by Mudassar Aziz, featuring Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. Released on February 21, 2025, the film attempts to blend humor and romance but falls short in delivering a fresh and engaging experience.

Plot Summary

The lives of Ankur Chaddha (Arjun Kapoor) suddenly get upturned because after a rather stormy divorce from his troubling ex-wife, Prabhleen Kaur Dhillon (Bhumi Pednekar), he is back in love with the girl he had a crush on during college, Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh). Just like everything seems to get right in Ankur’s life, there is an accident involving Prabhleen that causes her retrograde amnesia. She forgets about the divorce and believes that they are still married. And now, Ankur finds himself in a quite tricky position where both his past and present are colliding.

Storyline and Direction

Its premise indeed has the makings for a potentially humorous look at complex relationship lives. However, the fault lies in the advancing clichéd and predictable storyline. The screenplay runs devoid of any innovation, depending on outdated clichés and slapstick humor, which often doesn’t appeal to genuine laughter. Director Mudassar Aziz, known for his work in Pati Patni Aur Woh, seems to repeat scores without bringing in any new ideas or anything different. The film veers wildly in both the comedy and drama lanes, thereby causing an incoherent viewing experience.

Performances

  • Arjun Kapoor:Ankur lack depth and energy in the performance that Kapoor delivers. His part comes out monotonous and has an extremely limited emotional range to create empathy or connect with an audience.

  • Bhumi Pednekar: As Prabhleen, she tries to outshine herself into the role; however, as the poorly conceived character doesn’t give sufficient scope for her to exercise her talent fully.

  • Rakul Preet Singh: Playing Antara, Singh adds the glamour touch but relegates her into a superficial role with limited substance, serving mostly as a plot device than a developed character.

  • Supporting Cast:Kanwaljit Singh, Anita Raj, Shakti Kapoor, Harsh Gujral, and Aditya Seal are some talents in the ensemble, but they remain underutilized as the characters, which they play, are virtually of little consideration to the forward flow of the narrative.

Cinematography and Music

The film is not a visual spectacle and has run of the mill cinematography, which does not lend itself to storytelling. The soundtrack and background songs are also forgettable, lacking that shine or potential for memorability. Dance sequences will be forced upon itself, adding to the dullness of the film.

Critical Reception

The movie has received mixed to negative views from critics. The Times of India rated it 3 on a scale of 5 and said it contained some entertainment value, but it was a predictable storyline.

NDTV has been harsh and says only 1.5 stars for “empty and shallow.”

DNA India said it did not deliver because while it tried to evoke the nostalgia of the ’90s romcoms, it fell flat.

Conclusion

Mere Husband Ki Biwi” claims to be an engaging, romantic light comedy but falls short of such description due to its condition in a familiar plot, careless direction, and mediocre performance. It is hard for this film to find its own place, turning it into an unmemorable movie experience. This is the kind of film that does not score any better on originality or entertainment for the audience seeking something new.
